North Charleston crime and Goose Creek?
Im moving to somewhere in the Charleston area this fall. I keep hearing that there is alot of crime in N. Charleston and to stay away from there. How bad is this really? are we comparing to like the crime in LA? Im just curious because I have never been through there. Also, how is it in Goose Creek I have heard it is a very nice place and that is where I am visiting first. Thanks for any and all help

Most of the bad areas in North Charleston are nowhere near as bad as Compton or Watts. The majority of the crime is black on black and/or drug related. We have a few gangs around here but once again nothing like in LA. Goose Creek, or Duck Ditch as I like to call it, is a more rural area with much less crime..

Oh ok then I guess thats not too bad I can handle that. As far as Goose Creek it sounds like a place that I would belong. I grew up in a town of 600 people in Vermont and its really rural, so Goose Creek would probably be a good start for me down there. Thank You

As someone that lives in GC I don't find it rural at all. I've lived in a rural area and this isn't it. I live in Crowfield Plantation and it takes 10 minutes to go to the mall and restaurants, 15 minutes to S'Ville and 3 minutes to get to I-26. As of 2007, the population of GC was 32,139 (According to the 2009 City of GC's report to the people handbook) but it has increase since then because we are in a growth mode. Unfortunately with growth comes traffic issues.

I just recently bought a house in Goose Creek. Off of 176 near Wal-Mart.
It's a great area. I haven't had any problems at all with crime in the area and the GCPD seems bored enough that they would respond quickly if anything happened (they actually direct traffic coming out of church on Sunday afternoons).
I'm about a 10 minute drive from Northwoods mall and the interstate and only 7 miles from CSU where I take classes.
I would not consider Goose Creek to be rural at all. It's a Suburb of North Charleston.
Goose Creek and Summerville are fairly similar though. One big difference is property taxes. I looked at some homes in Summerville that were selling for the same price I paid (or less in some cases) but the taxes were double or more what I pay here in Goose Creek and the house I bought has more features than those homes (fireplace, privacy fence, shed out back, trash pickup included in property taxes etc).
Goose Creek is definitely worth a look and I would be more than happy to give you the name of a good real estate agent who knows the area and would be able to answer any or all of your questions.

oh wow ok that clears it up for me then. 32,000 people is the same amount in the biggest city in vermont. That most certainly is not rural then (at least in my eyes). I will try Goose Creek. How are the apartments there as I am single, 21 and certainly not rich. I can afford up to $700 a month but would rather spend less if possible. i dont even need a fancy place im not picky I will live anywhere. any ideas on that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not sure what the rents are at Cobbleston Village Apts, but it is a new facility and we were very impressed with them. We ended up going for a house rental at the last minute, but were going to go with them for an apartment initially.
