Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It has happened more than once on here. Sometimes I think it is the anti-growth crowd trying to scare away any newcomers to the area.

Wow. It seemed like an innocent question to me. Not sure why everyone is jumping down the OP's throat. Save a few, no one has really answered her question about crime and areas to avoid (if any). I don't live in Summerville, so I cannot comment.

Yeah, really, I thought this whole Charleston forum was going to be helpful to get answers from locals and professionals in the area but it usually just goes off on a tangent or gets snarky.

99.9% of the folks on here ( except Ole tom cat...JK ) are very very helpful. When the OP starts the post with > have a SWAT TEAM ????? then the you kind of take a step back and ask have they already drawn thier own conclusion? In this case he/she seems to already have summerville pegged as crime haven USA partially because the town has a swat team. Try asking questions that dont put people on the defensive about thier town and you may get better answers. Sometimes its not what you ask, but HOW you ask. And FYI I dont even live in s'ville.

Cool Safe in nyc !!!

I confess I am from New York City, just named by the FBI as THE SAFEST CITY IN AMERICA !!!!! I am discontinuing my search for property in highly unsafe Charleston or Summerville. I will continue to "enjoy" the high taxes I pay because obviously I now realize that those high taxes pay for my security. Keep your nice weather...at least I can sleep with my windows open and not look over my shoulder. HAVE A NICE DAY !!!

Just FYI troll poster

No. 1: Ramapo, NY
Ramapo's crime rate is 89.18% below the national average. Ramapo had the fewest burglaries, the second fewest motor vehicle thefts, and also ranked in the top 10 for fewest robberies. In all, Ramapo had only 688 incidents of reported crime over the past year.

Default Remarkable

I think it is REMARKABLE that a city of EIGHT MILLION people is deemed the most safe city. Yes we have a SWAT Team and a bomb squad, the BEST in the USA apparently.

I'm still not sure why everyone is so defensive. I did not get the impression that she had an axe to grind with Summerville. She pointed out that Summerville, considered an small, safe town, had a Swat team (wouldn't you be surprised by that as well?) and then mentioned looking at alarming crime statistics. Then, she asked for local opinions.

If the OP was wrong about the crime statistics, point her to a more reliable data source rather than ridiculing her. Wouldn't you want the same courtesy if you were wrong about something? Give someone the benefit of the doubt.
Not everyone that comes on here is looking for a fight.

Maybe her data included N. Charleston. Who knows...

ps
Well, after reading the last few posts, I think this thread will become useless.
