I completed a phone interview with a prospective employer and I'm in the final 2 for the position. The job is located near the Citadel Mall and I'm looking for a place that is relatively close, great schools, and safe.
Living close to the mall means Charleston county, which many of their schools have a lot to be desired. The magnet schools are very good, but there are no guarantees. I don't know much about west ashley commuities, but there are some suitable ones off Glen McConnell and off Ashley River Road/ Hwy 61.
If you are looking for a newer home, you might want to check out Carolina Bay. A range of new homes of all shapes and sizes and Centex built. If the schooling will work, it might be worth checking out.
From Summerville the commute should be around 30 min or a little less under ideal conditions. But, the conditions are less than ideal in rush hour and it can be from up to an hour during the worst periods.
Some nice places in Mt. Pleasant, but not sure of the commute time and what the rush hour traffic is like.
Update:Just got a tentative offer over the phone with a contract arriving via fax in the next day or 2.In the end I think we might just do a Centex townhouse for the start. That would be the better financial play.I'm supposed to start no later that August 1st but the owner will fly me down a few times to get acclimated with the job and relocating.
Welcome to the area. I would suggest not buying right away. I've learned from personal experience that what is exceptable to some people may not be to you, or vice versa. I suggest you rent for 6 months or so to get your own personal feel for the area. Let you make a more informed decision on what kind of area you like and what kind of commute you are willing to deal with.
Just my 2 cents.
Again Welcome to the area.
