Default Anyone move from Ohio to Summerville/North Charleston

Is the cost of living relatively the same moving from Ohio to North Charleston (right by CSU). I am a new teacher in DD2 this fall. I will be renting an apartment not purchasing a home.

I am not a local, but I am from Ohio as well, unfortunately! From what I can tell the cost of living is higher in Charleston than Ohio, but not high by normal people's standards. (Ohio is one of the cheapest states to live in). I would not recommend living in North Charleston, as the crime rates are high from what I have seen. BTW, new teacher's do not get paid very well anywhere, but especially not in the south, so a roomate may not be a bad idea to help cut costs for you! Also, locals please let me know if I have given out any bad info, as that is not my intention!!!

I am living right off highway 78 on the east side of I-26. I checked it out with ppl and found it to be safe place to live (Atlantic Palms Apartments). It is right next to Charleston Southern University. I know what my teacher pay will be this year, and it will be pretty much the same as what I am making now. I am practically living in Dorchester County but not quite. I didn't want to live to close to Charleston because of the higher standard of living. But what do you think about this particular area's cost of living?

Moss- your in a pretty good area of N.Charletson and AP is a nice complex to be in. You have a great staff and the apartments are nice. We used to house our interns thier and they had rave reviews.

There is a website that you can put in your current zip code and the N.Charleston zip code and it will do a cost compare for you.

Do you know the name of the site? I have been on a few but they can be very general because I can only pick charleston because it didn't get anymore specific than that. Obviously, living in Charleston is waaaaayy different in terms of cost of living. Thanks!
