I'd strongly caution against taking your dog to any beach between 10am and 6 during the summer. The sand is HOT in the afternoon, and the sun/humidity can be merciless on your puppy. I see plenty of dogs on IOP beach at 2pm that look like they're about 20 minutes from bursting into flames. It's not pretty.

As long as you bring plenty of water for your dog and he/she likes to go in the water, your dog will be fine. I have a harder time getting my dog to leave the beach than I do my children some times!!
