Hey folks. My fiancee and some friends are planning to do some crabbing next weekend (just recreational hand-lining) and if everything goes well, having a crab boil. Just wondering if anyone has any crabtastic fishing spots they'd be willing to share.
on the 4th? the rivers will be overflowing with boats on that day, there will be very few decent spots u can get to by land that won't be constantly disturbed by incoming/out going boats... good luck!
you could try the new pier in MtP., it's opening day is July 4th... crab near the pilings...
or head towards Edisto Is and stop along side the road at any one of the small bridges and throw a line in...
anywhere close to the city will probably be too high traffic areas to comfortably do any crabbing IMO
personally I like the Stono river area by the boat landing under the bridge during the week when the traiffic is low... you can fill a bucket quick from that dock or from that little creek that runs beside it
go at low tide and stick around till the water gets well up into the grass... by then the crabs will be hiding from the fish far inside the grass
The James Island County Park has a nice fishing/crabbing dock.
There is also a public pier at Folly Beach (not the big ocean pier, but the smaller one on the Folly River). It's the first pier on the left as soon as you cross the Folly River onto the island. There is a little park there.
I've also seen people fishing and crabbing from the pier at Crosby's Seafood (on the right a mile or so before you get to Folly).

It all depends upon the current.
But at low tide, around any submerged structure, (esp. what's left of the footings for the old "Groins" on Folly) are your best bet.
Check on the licensing information, I just received an email today from DNR that new regulations go into affect on 7/1/09 requiring salt water fishing licenses.
