Thumbs up North Charleston and Hanahan is BEAUTIFUL

Hello City-data friends. I am from NYC and I visited my parents in North Charleston for a few weeks and I loved it. I heard so many bad things about it, but I see there are different parts to North Charleston.

The beautiful part that I speak of is off Rivers. My parents live in the Peppercorn subdivision. I also loved Hanahan and we traveled further in where my cousins bought a brand new home in the Tanner Plantation.
Man, all I need is car and I would move there.

I've also been to the run down areas of Charleston, some look worse than Brooklyn and some look like parts of Queens. But it was okay just to ride through and check it out.

But back to the good parts..my kids loved it too. All they wanted to do was go to Walmart, lol, we don't have Walmarts like you'll do. I must have gained 5lbs, because Rivers (I call it heart attack Ave) has so many fast food restaurants. Everybody is so much friendlier than NYC, geesh. It was great. I am going back to pick up my daughter at the end of the summer. I might move in with my parents, but shhhh don't tell them that.

Yeah, I love it here too. Moved here from Bklyn a year ago. I had wanted to find a place closer to the beaches like Mt Pleasant or James Island but settled in North Charleston near work on Rivers Av. Folks around here think this is like East NY or Brownsville. No doubt, some areas are pretty deep, like the south end of town, but there are some great little areas like Tanner and Park Circle. The North Area is also a good vantage point for driving the lowcountry because it's at the junction of I26 & I526, between Summerville and the beaches. So many areas have just one road in and out. There's decent shopping up here too, such as the Tanger Outlet and Northwoods areas. I practically live in Super Walmart and Lowes.
