Oh, I know, how could I forget...
To be honest I look at liberal dominated government cities as New York, California, Jersey, Michigan to name a few and take a gander at the unemployment rates as well as the TAX burdens. Its no wonder why people, liberal as well as conservative, want to get out. And Im not entirely convinced that South Carolinians should welcome liberals with open arms as has been displayed here seeing what liberal politics has done to their states. While Im not from SC, I love it. And its not because of liberal-bent thinking that has SC a much desired and respectable destination to live, trust me, its the conservative, high moral valued traditions that make it great. Sorry this post is so political, but hey, the proof is in the pudding.

You are aware that the standard of living in the first three states you mentioned are higher than SC's?

I don't understand why liberal is a bad word. To me it means advocating for equal rights, seeing the worth of the individual, helping those who are not able to help themselves, etc. When I hear people complain about social welfare problems, I am not sure if they think about programs that some people consider a godsend, such as Medicaid/Medicare, Social Security, shelters, substance abuse programs, food pantries, children's insurance, medcal help for those with no income, disability, SSDI....I could go on, but you see my point. I also see what seems like bitter, angry, and snide people who aren't liberals, and it seems like they never have a good thing to say. It is as though satan is a liberal, god is a conservative, end of story. Anyhow, not trying to step on the toes of my conservative humans on here, just venting.

I fit in perfectly up in Jersey. We have vegetarian restaurants on every block. How much will I stand out in Charleston? I do not have any piercings or tattoos (besides a small one on my foot). I am not an artsy chick, just a normal college liberal. How rare is this in SC?
I'm moving to charleston in 3 weeks and I'd pretty much be considered a 21 year old liberal hippie. I think you and I would probably get along ;p

The 19th century was a pretty miserable time on so many levels. And for some reason, conservatives always want to go back to it...

I am certainly curious to see how the differences in political orientation play out on the local level.

Re: Obama- He can't win right now. Conservatives are painting him as a huge socialist, while all of the lefties are thinking he's not going far enough (I'm in the second camp- like Clinton, he's blatantly pro-business and liberal in the nineteenth century sense of the word).

In Myrtle Beach, I was told they're not allowed to sell any paraphernalia...but they will sell a ninja sword to anyone who walks in the door...that always amused me...

Alot of the laws in SC amuse me, like it is illegal to play any game with cards or dice with the exception of whist and backgammon.
