i just completed a SE US Beaches tour and i really loved I'on. Very unique and it just seemed like exactly what we are looking for for our three young daughters (7 y.o., 3 y.o. and 9 months) ....however.... education is our highest priority and we are concerned about the public schools.
We kept hearing about the great montessori school the great private schools and frankly SC schools dont have the greatest rep. Some told us the best choice for good schools was Daniel Island.
i read GreatSchools .com reviews but there are only 2 reviews where most schools have many more.
i really would be eager to hear the good the bad and ugly of the public schools that serve the I'on community ?????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am also curious what taxes and insurance might run on a $600k-$700k home????
and if you have any other thoughts about I'on that you feel you would like to share with the world please feel free!!!!
I'On is zoned for James B. Edwards Elementary, Moultrie Middle and Wando High School. Both of my daughters attended these schools and did quite well in and well prepared for college. James B. Edwards and Moultrie Scools both received a "good" score on the 2008 State Report Card and Wando an "Excellent" score. A new Moultrie Middle School is under construction and Wando HS is relatively new and looks like a college campus. Real estate taxes on a $600,000 - $700,000 home will be in the $2400 range based on the 2008 millage rate.
Moultrie Middle School Above
Wando HS

Michael - We're planning on moving to I'on or downtown Charleston from L.A. hopefully next spring (crossing my fingers our house sells quickly). We have an almost 3yr old and another due in October so schools are very important to us as well and may be the deciding factor for us. We just got back from a visit toCharleston and fell in love with I'on, it's wonderful there! Good luck to you. If you find any other great sources of info/personal opionions on I'on please share it here, I'm trying to find out everything I can!
For those forum members who are not familiar with I'On or might enjoy viewing photos of I'On and of each individual home surrounding East and West Lake, you may find two slide shows at the following links:
why in the world would a family with kids want Ion over some of the other choices in Mt Pleasant??? It's the "trendy" neighborhood yes, i know but you have no backyard, from what i can tell there isnt even alot of parks or open areas like Daniel Island has...what is the big deal with Ion...I took my wife through there and she wouldnt even consider it...landed in Daniel Island and love it here. Ion looks like a train wreck with everything for sale in there right now
Ion has several play parks, lakes, great amenities and open spaces. It is a quaint little subdivision. Not a cookie cutter neighborhood. Many like the vicinity to downtown. The yards are small, and for some that can be a negative. Overall it has a lot to offer a new family in the area.
OK I'll defer to beachme as she is probably more familiar with the Mt Pleasant are than i would be...beachme have you been coming over the bridge lately? would love to see you out in the field! I have some ridiculous pricing through the end of the month...
I have been a SAHM lately. However we go all over the bridge and Summerville lately...Our team has grown so we keep them busy. But I learned a lot about Ion in recent months because I had a client who loved and only wanted Ion.I think I showed every home under 1.2 million listed in Ion. :0
For me, I'ON is very close to downtown where I worked, so I am looking at it. I agree I'ON is a train wreck, however, so are the rest of Mt. Pleasant and the Daniel island. I still don't understand why Daniel island is so good when it is so far out and way over-priced for the location. Well, I'ON is over-priced, too, consider some houses have been on the market since 2007.
Remember, your house is only worth what a ready, willing and ABLE buyer offers.
