I would pass on N.Charleston. Over the last few years, the northern end of the city re-developed which has been a nice improvement. However for me, as a native, the bad outweighs the good in N.Chas. There is no shortage of traffic or crime and I can do without both! I would live anywhere else in the region though with downtown being my preference-thats where I grew up-.
Kind of hard to say because there are really nice neighborhoods beside or across the street from really bad neighborhoods. I have never seen such disparity as there is in North Charleston.
I have read on here from time to time that there are a few places in N. Charleston
that are ok. No?
Where Ashley Phosphate Rd runs into Dorchester Rd is a good start. Anywhere between there and the Walmart on Dorchester Rd are pretty good places to live. Just don't go in the opposite direction on Dorchester towards the airport.

Park Circle is like this. We've lived here for just under a year and think it's great. It's such a quiet area where neighbors look out for each other and take pride in the surrounding community. You see people jogging and walking their dogs around the circle. The Thursday farmer's market seems to be thriving. However, we're surrounded on three sides by some sketchy areas, and it gets deeper the further down Rivers and Spruill avenues you go. I grew up taking public transportation but I would hesitate ride the bus around here. Nevertheless, the area is so centrally located (I-26/526/Rivers Av/King St) that it's easy to get to anywhere in the region.
