I do enjoy eating a basket of Fried Shrimp and downing some cold beers sitting at the bar at Red's Ice House
Has anyone been to Coast up by Rue de Jean? I've heard it's got pretty good seafood....
Also, it's a bit out of the way, but on Daniel Island, I really like Queen Anne's Revenge...they have good seafood, a bit more pricey than some but not outrageous.
Honestly neither I nor my wife were thrilled with the food at Hanks. We've always received a great meal at The Boathouse restaurant which is on your way to Sullivans Island. Great seafood there.
I could not agree more about Hanks. It has been talked up so my husband and I finally went. It was so loud in there, we couldn't hear each other talk. He ordered tuna and got grouper. Not great.
Never had a bad meal at The Boathouse and the view is awesome.
Coast is also really good.

I have to say that over the years, I've worked in 6 seafood restaurants in Charleston...and I don't know why, but a restaurant with some of the best seafood is The Boathouse. Don't know why, and I know it's not "chic" to say it's the best, but it is really good. The freshness (it seems) and quality of seafood, and they way they cook it. Even one of my favorites- sesame seared rare tuna- is great. And I'm picky with my raw fish!
I'll just throw my two cents in and you can take it or not for what it's worth! I visited Charleston in April 2009 and ate dinner at Hanks. I liked the food and the atmosphere there and so did my family. I'm not a regular there. I've just eaten there the one time.
I'll be in Charleston again in about a week so I'm willing to try The Boathouse but I'd go back to Hanks in a hearbeat too!
Another good one is Seels Fish Camp which is out on Sullivans now. Across from Poes. Can't miss it.
