I live in mt pleasant and am going to explore Charleston(have only lived here a month) i am going to a tattoo shop on King street extension that is almost in north Charleston called holy city, is it in an ok part of town were i can drive with my doors unlocked or should i stay out of that area? I have heard America Street was bad, but this place is the other way, am i ok? also anyone ever been there?
I've never been to the tattoo shop, but would be cautious in that area. The safest area of downtown would be south of Calhoun St. There are certainly areas north of Calhoun that are fine, but that's a broad guideline. Upper King St. (before the extension) has a lot of bars and restaurants etc. that are good places to go.
There's a tattoo shop on Clements Ferry Rd, in Cainhoy.....only 4 miles from 17.take Highway 41 (at CVS, Sonic, KFC)......go over the bridge at the Wando.....at 1/4mile bear LEFT onto Clements Ferry Rd.....it will be 100 yards on right. Don't know anything about the place, but will ask around today.
As a general rule you want to avoid upper Meeting/Lower Rivers area as much as possible. Very industrial and run down. Lately there has been a movement to restore much of east side downtown so it is very patchy. Just be careful and be smart.
