Geechie. A lot of the people around Charleston were very happy to see their property values go up, and thus sell for a very good amount. I'm curious to know how these folks were "evicted"?
By "gentrification", I meant the state's racist policy of using "Heir's Land" to evict lower income folks so hustlers from Scranton and Schnectady can move in and plot ways to screw widows out of their Social Security checks.
To be sure...................
Geechie North, your definition of gentrification is correct in principle - according to Merriam-Webster:
"the process of renewal and rebuilding accompanying the influx of middle-class or affluent people into deteriorating areas that often displaces poorer residents ".
Without going into the politics of it, this process is mostly driven by demand and supply...

I'd look up "Heir's Land".
It's a common process the state of SC uses to disposess low income blacks off of land that was deemed worthless (historical basis) but is now prime real estate for people from Zanesville and Harrisburg who are too dumb to understand why it was deemed worthless in the first place.

I can't fathom paying that much for a small condo that looks out at the port operations, or on the other side that looks out over some of the less than steller areas of the lower peninsula...but, I'm glad they have found a good use for that building and aren't just going to tear it down....
