I'm new to the area and recently bought a home in mount pleasant. I want to put in a sprinkler system and am considering drilling a well to supply the water. I know the water table is high and should be able to use a system that uses a garden hose to do the drilling.

What should I be aware of? local regulations, potential problems.

Can't wait to get settled in

Thanks,

You may want to check with your homeowner's association before you do this to see if it is allowed, then check with your local water system to see if they allow it. Check with DEHC (department of environment and health controls) to get the regs for wells and to see if you need it inspected. Other than that it is a pretty easy thing to do, shallow water wells around here have a lot of sulphur in the water so be careful of that too.....

It's the only way to go unless your new home includes a money tree. Most water providers encourage it because it puts less demand on their resources. Irrigation companies often use a pressure washer with a small diameter pvc pipe to drill the well. Shallow wells generally also have a lot of ferrous components in the water, so it's easy to stain your concrete and house if your heads are not well adjusted. Spray chemicals are available from most building supply stores to remove these rust stains, as long as you don't wait too long to clean them.
