Johns Island
I am really pretty surprised to hear about gang activity on Johns Island....never knew it was here and I am on this island everyday all day.
Its just not something I have worried or even heard about so someone must know something I do not.
I would hate for someone to eliminate living here on that rumor.

Being one of those local law enforcement guys previously, I can assure you, it's everywhere, not just John's Island. All communities have their fair share of crime, gangs, roving bands of thugs, etc., it's just a simple matter of speaking with the police and determining if the local stats for that neighborhood, area, etc., are within your "comfort" zone. I live on the upper peninsula and couldn't be happier, but not everyone would feel that way. I know many people who live on John's Island and find it quiet, peaceful, safe and very family friendly and haven't been the victim of a crime, nor witnessed a crime on John's Island in all the time they've lived there.

Yes, I agree it is everywhere....
being that we are leaving a hot bed of that type of activity we are very in tune with what is going on, what we do and do not want.
I didn't post what I did to ruffle feathers, but I do believe it is important for all of us to share what we know.
One person's comfort level may not be tolerable for another and that isn't a bad thing.

Believe me, my "comfort level" would not include gang activity. If that was going on around me or in my community I would not be living here.

All of those you mentioned are in pretty nice areas. They run the spectrum though...Villages at St. John's is single family homes in the $250k+ price range, Grimball Gates is single family in the $400k-900k+ price range, and Twelve Oaks is a $100k-175k townhome/condo community in Fenwick Plantation.

If you go by this map, DJShymansky is 100% right. It is EVERYWHERE. Look at SC compared to the rest of the country. The whole state pretty much (except for a few areas in the upstate and except for Sullivan's Island where no info is available) get's the top "edgy" rating.
To see the map first go here: Cyberhomes.com
Then on the left, click on the "Crime" map under popular maps.
Next click and drag the map of the USA so that only the southeastern states are showing and click on the + zoom to zoom in. Notice that almost all of SC turns dark orange/rust (the highest crime rating).
I thought that the worst crime was concentrated in N. Charleston but according to that map , it IS everywhere. It makes SC look like the worst state in the country for crime with Florida running a close second.Surprisingly coastal Georgia, according to this map seems a lot safer. Is this a fair representation? Why would the whole state of SC get such a low rating?

re: Villages at St Johns Woods - does anyone know whether or not a road is going to go through there from Maybank to Bohicket? It seems that there are a lot of houses for sale there -- does anyone know if there is any particular reason for that?
