Default Credit Unions...

Does anyone here know if there are credit unions in the Charleston area, that may also have branches here in NC? I remember reading either here or the NC forum that there was a CU that was actually the same thing but with different names in each State. We would need something closer until we relocate.

TIA

SCFCU does not go into NC, Navy FCU requires that you are in the Navy.

Not sure about that. I asked about doing that and moving out of state and they said it was a problem b/c they are licensed (?) only for SC residents or something. I asked a few months ago. Maybe I got bad info - SCFCU in Summerville is notorious for bad info and bad service. The branches in Columbia are very good and the one in Oakbrook has been fine.

I use both Navy FCU (don't use NFCU while searching you will get the wrong site) and SCFCU, I like Navy FCU much better, you get world wide word class service from the largest credit union in the world.....

That being said, SCFCU isn't too bad either, my wife's check gets deposited in SCFCU, mine in Navy FCU

It's not. Navy Fed is huge. It does not require that you're in the Navy but any DoD organization, whether you're active duty, retired, DoD fed employee or related to the same. They have a lot of options but they're certainly not the best.

Why not just switch CUs when you move?

Small, local CUs are much better than the big banks.
