The Borough surrounding The Citadel.....
We just returned from some time down in Charleston. We drove through The Citadel and the neighborhood surrounding it. ( I can't remember the Borough name) There was a lovely little park there and some very charming homes. Can any of you tell me about the area?
TIA

Hampton Park, Hampton Park Terrace and Wagener Terrace. That's my little corner of Charleston. Hampton Park is gorgeous and the perfect place to run in the morning/evening and walk the dogs. Hampton Park Terrace is the neighborhood on the Citadel/Football stadium side. Wagener Terrace is behind the Citadel, on the opposite side of the park from Hampton Park Terrace.

jfyi there are no borough's here, that's a NY thing or the likes... queens, bronx, brooklyn, manhattan, staten island are boroughs
west ashley, downtown, james island, johns island, mt. pleasant, north charleston, ladson, ravenel etc etc are all in Charleston County but are not referred to as borough's
and the area you're asking about is just a neighborhood, very pretty area but watch out for the broken beer bottles and hypodermic needles under those live oaks... it's a shame, that was a place I used to really love back in the 60's but the surrounding areas are not so safe anymore

Charleston does have Boroughs. The neighborhoods within the downtown area are considered as such. If you are in the downtown area and look at the street signs, in a smaller print at the top of the signs it will list what Borough it is.
The ones I can think of right now are: South of Broad, Ansonborough, Wraggsborough, Radcliffborough, French Quarter.
One of the first things that they *teach* you on the carriage tours is about the Boroughs.
James Island, Mt. Pleasant, Ladson are in the same county but their own town.
This past week I spent some time chatting with Police Officers all through the area. They spoke highly of Hampton Park/Wagener Terrace. Being from the Charlotte area, the crime in Charleston is small potatoes.
Wherever we plant out feet we will very happy I am sure.

with all due respect I am from here, been here many decades and I'm not sure when the real estate co.'s started calling neighborhoods boroughs but they are not... real boroughs are almost like small towns with real dividing lines
Ladson is not a town and has no town structure, it's just an area... it became known as a town because a sign was put up years ago saying "Ladson" ... bascially from that day forward it started being called a town even though it isn't... it's was just one of those small area things that sounded neat so everyone went with it...
James Island just very recently became a town, like within the last year or so, although the area is hundreds of years old... I've lived in it twice over the yrs, once for a few yrs back in the 60's and again in the early 70's...
real boroughs are places like I stated, as NYC has, which have real dividing lines sort of like what James Is, Johns Is, WA, Mt.P, N.Chas, Downtown Chas etc etc have
because a city has some signs made within the last few yrs doesn't change an area... Charleston has been on a track to change itself into something it isn't for many years now... reminds me of some certain POTUS we have... lol
anyway, good luck with your decision... and try not to come here and tell the locals what their area is or isn't once you're here... depending on where you live your perspective may differ, but until recently no one ever called neighborhoods here boroughs... they are just neighborhoods... no seperate mayors or counsils, counsimen/women yes but counsils no... and no seperate town halls
boroughs have seperate govt's... look up the definition of a borough if u wish and you'll see a clear distinction

I did not get my information from a real estate company. When I first became taken aback by the area I started reading about it and my first memory of reading about Boroughs there is about Ansonborough and I think they the revitalization for that area began in perhaps 1969.
While you may not recognize that the area has Boroughs, the fact is that they do. No matter how long they have been in place.
And fyi...I have no intention nor have I ever come to the area and wanted to tell people what the area is. They do not need me to do that. Most people appreciate and love Charleston for what it was, has been and now is, just as I do.
