My husband and I are about 3-5 years from retirement. We are looking for a place to retire, and possibly a second home untill then. I used to live in Charleston, and loved it there. We are beach people, but don't have to be right on the beach.
We contacted a real estate agent but haven't heard a thing from him.
Any and all advice about the Del Webb developement and any contacts would be appreciated.
As an aside, when I first lived in Charleston, I hated that puff mud smell, but on returning, it just made me smile, I felt I was finally back home.

Contact the Sales Center, their sales staff is more than helpful 843-482-4600. They will usually assist in hotel stay if you need to travel to look at their model homes.

I would definately try and find a buyer's agent. We purchased a house from Del Webb (Pulte) in 2007 and I wouldn't deal directly with them without some representation on your side. We had some problems along the way and since we weren't local to the area, our agent was invaluable. We used Allen Tate realty, and luckily found a great agent, but I don't believe they go that far east.

Are you going to the Del Webb community in Charleston or are you looking at Sun City Hilton Head. The Hilton Head one is just off of the Island and is one of their larger communities. That usually means more available amenities. It was on our short list but we decided on Sun City Texas.

You might want to check out the HHI one. It's still close to Charleston but a little closer to Savannah, another fine southern town.

Certainly look at the entire package. Taxes, HOA fees and the community restrictions are the biggest concerns for active adult communities. Take a look at the community web site if you can get access (the SC TX site is open but for SC HHI you need to ask for a temporary login). Talk to the people when your there and ask them what they like and don't like about the area.

In the communities that are still being developed, Pulte is still pretty much running the Association (CA) and can be a little heavy handed at times. Ask about that when you talk to residents.

Good luck on your house hunting and let us know what you decide. If you don't need the salt water, take a look at Sun City Texas. It's what my wife and I were looking for.

We were one of first to move here when there was just "mud" 2 years ago. We love it here and I'm sure you will find the sales personnel, staff and residents very helpful. If you look through the threads here, you will see all the info I posted.

Hi...we live in PA and looked in Del Webb in July, 2009. It's a beautiful area. We have a RE agent that is fantastic. Shirley Phillips with Carolina One in Summerville. e-mail address is sphillips@carolinaone.com (800 942-1848 x 6097. Our biggest concern are the tax rates and yearly car registration cost.
