Yeah, fleas are going to be a problem no matter where you live. It's just part of living in the south. Your dog will also require being on year round heartworm treatment too.

Meks, wow. That is excellant news for us. I almost feel guilty saying that as it's obvioulsy not good news for the seller but.....wow.

OldTomCat, we have never had to use any flea collar or drops here.
Do you find that the drops work well?I don't want to put a flea collar on our 6 lb poodle.

SCJJ, I had a feeling that was the case ...our poodle takes monthy heart worm prevention pills now here as well.

Thank you all for all of your very helpful replies.

Drops work well, on that small of a dog you don't need much, we have three big labs and have to buy it by the quart...

While I'm on the topic..sort of...are the "Palmetto Bugs" a huge problem in Sun City since it is further away form the water? DO we have to spray every few months or so for them??

Palmetto Bugs are problem everywhere in the state....

You have to spray for all kinds of bugs, not just them...

Default fleas

Flea collars only kill the fleas traveling up the neck to get a drink from a dog's eye. The body fleas won't be affected by a collar which is why someone using a collar has issues with infestations. No matter what state you live in dogs need topical or pill form flea medicine. The lawn should also be treated with Ortho Bug be Gone Max granules. It will get rid of fleas, ants and a lot of other bugs for months.
