Fredericksburg Nightlife?
I may be relocating to Fredericksburg, VA. I'm a 23 y/o young professional that's interested in what Fredericksburg has to offer as far as nightlife. Everything i hear about it sounds like it's a sleepy town. Am i correct?

I went to high school in Fredericksburg and my parents still live there. I currently live in Fairfax, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C. Fredericksburg is growing pretty quickly due to its proximity to Washington. The city itself doesn't offer a whole lot in the way of night life. If you are going to be working in Fredericksburg, you might want to move to North Stafford so that you can be 30 minutes from downtown DC and 15 minutes from your job.

My parents also live in Fredericksburg. You wouldn't know it's a college town. It's pretty quiet for the most part. It's not the place to live if you're looking for 20something night life. My son is 23 and I know he wouldn't live there. He's in Kingstowne (Alexandria) and he and his friends find plenty to do within 15 minutes of there.

There are some clubs, and some cool places in downtown... you just need to walk around. There's usually some club in 'uptown' central park, but it's always closing and re-themeing (it started as a shark themed club, with live sharks and such, then it became 'uncle sam's'... I don't know what it'll be next. There's Shannons in the hotel in the front of Central Park, but I've never been there...
DC and Richmond offer a lot to do, and at night the drive isn't too bad. Check the paper to see what's going on. Once you make friends, it shouldn't be hard to fill your evenings with fun activities... it just won't be as easy as it is in some other locations.

I feel sorry for you having to move here. I moved here 3 years ago from Texas and I do miss it the wide open spaces. The first time I came here, I thought this place was 15 years behind. Technology, road, styles are old here. There is no city life here in the DC area. I miss 24 hours shopping and dining. I don't understand why stores here are not open 24 hours as most are in Texas. So, many things wrong with this place I don't know where to begin.
Housing is expensive for what you get. Let me also say that DC and NOVA houses have no style here. The townhouse I bought for 400,000 you can easily get for 100,000 in San Antonio or Austin. I can't believe I am paying 400,000 for this dump. I moved here because of opportunity, but now I am thinking was really worth it. I always tell people that DC is a Dump City.
I also notice people are not polite here and they don't like to read. I think people here are not as educated as people in San Antonio or Austin. I am not impressed with this place as you can see. So, I am giving you some words of caution before you move here.
People here also don't know how to drive, they don't how to use the turn signal and can't recognize a yield.
The good thing about this place, is that the police here are very nice compared to the police in Texas. I was doing 75 in a 45 and the police saw me but didn't pull me over. Good luck trying that in Texas. You will most likely get pulled over for going 1 mph over the speed limit. Some of the police here didn't even ask for my license, let me tell you the police are too nice here.
This may be the only good thing.
Oh, if you love BBQ like me, good luck finding it here. The same with Mexican food. There are some places for BBQ/Mexican food, but it's not even close to the real deal and you are going to pay alot for those small servings.
Let me also, that Northern Virginia does not that good hamburger place. Five Guys, yeah right! The hamburgers are so small and expensive. I am proud that I was raised in Texas I cannot deny that. Now, I have to learn how to survive in this place.
As for the roads, this place has very few of them. When I first came here I was curious where are all the highways and double deck roads. I was thinking this place is 20 years behind. It's like I stepped back in time.
Well, enough of this, I have more to stay but I think I will stop here.
Good luck with your move.

First of all, it seems like you're talking about DC and Northern VA, where-as his question was about Fredericksburg, which is not either...

In Fredericksburg, there is a small chain called Pancho Villa's... It has awesome mexican food, and reasonable prices. Easilly the best mexican food I've ever had. As far as BBQ, Fredericksburg has Virginia BBQ, which has lately been franchising, but I still think it's good, and there's Allman's BBQ off of route 1. Both of those are old timey places, really classic virginia BBQ.
Besides that, every other one of your comments can be answered by the fact that the poster is moving to Fredericksburg, not DC

um, I grew up in Texas.
I have found both very good BBQ and Mexican food here.
You can't compare housing costs...Texas has always had cheap land and therefore housing is cheap. Parts of Austin are everybit as expensive as NoVa..westlake area.
Just by reading your wonderfully insiteful posts....yes, we all can see how much more intellegent Texans are to NoVa and DC.

But I will try the Mexican food place. Back in San Antonio, you can get authentic Mexican food meal for under $6 with a drink.

So what? You're not in Texas anymore. Either get used to what you have here or go back. It's really very simple.
I agree BTW, that the only real bbq is in Texas, but I don't spend my time mourning everything I don't have. I celebrate and enjoy what I do have.

Oh Eric D! You are so right about Allman's. And the vinegar-based sauce is the best!! Definitely NC style! Unfortunately Francoga, with two young kids, my night life is pretty non-existent, but I think Fredericksburg is a great place to live!
