Default Engagement/Proposal in Charleston SC ideas

Hi,

I am thinking about proposing to my girlfriend this Christmas. I live in Charleston and I am stumped on an idea of where to ask her. I would like to it in a somewhat private place that isnt very expensive. Im not a cheapskate, I just spent almost all I have on the ring. Does anyone know of a balcony or really awesome room or even a kind of random place where I could do this?

Thanks

Wow, good idea....

Try a carriage ride through downtown and propose along the ride.

Waterfront park is another good spot, or the gazebo on the Battery.

The city puts up a big display on one of the streets downtown and has a beautiful tree.....

If those don't catch your fancy you can go to one of the plantations, Magnolia has a beautiful bridge over a dark water lake.....

How about the deck of the Yorktown or the view deck (towards the Harbor) of the Aquarium?

At Xmas the James Island County Park has a huge light show- they decorate the entire paved loop and vehicles drive through. They also do concessions & a little Santaland/trolly. We go for fun but that should be suitably special.

G/L

All good ideas. Evening on a pier can be nice - strolling on the beach. I would suggest the end of Folly by Morris Island.

I think under the gazebo downtown on the battery would be a great place. You could be walking through there and let her walk ahead of you and than get on your knee and ask her! My husband asked me kinda like that on a walk.

How about on Sullivans Island in the Fort somewhere. Or on the Ravenel Bridge at sunset?

You all took my ideas! LOL I think my favorite would be on a private carriage ride downtown or at the far end of Folly Beach overlooking the Morris Island Lighthouse - at sunset.

One idea, albeit a little costly, is on the Spirit of Carolina dinner cruise. When I was cruise director back in the early 90's (it was the Spirit of Charleston then) we had proposals all the time...on the dance floor, on one of the decks, at the table (ring on the dessert plate was popular), and on the intercom, coming from the wheelhouse. One guy had it planned perfectly: as we approached the tip of the peninsula he had friends holding up sheets sewn together with the words, "Will You Marry Me, _________?", hanging out of the windows of one of the large homes on Murray Blvd. The captain blew the ship's horn and everone applauded. We were all envious of that girl!!

Whatever you choose......good luck and congratulations in advance!!!

The gazebo at the battery is being rebuilt right now. Not sure when it will be ready.

Any place outside at Christmas could be a crap shoot with the weather so I would come up with an outside place and inside place.

For outside, maybe in the historic part of Summerville. Just past the railroad tracks coming from 1-26 there is a grassy area that is decorated with lots of lights for Christmas. If you are thinking about proposing in the evening.

During the day you could propose in several spots at Charlestown Landing. It costs 1.00 per person to go in. Check it out before hand.

Good luck!! Let us know what you decide.

Middleton Place...right smack between the butterfly lakes.

Make reservations at the Inn for later in the evening
