The Nucor Steel mill in Mt. Pleasant is taking online applications for entry level positions. I'm not sure what they mean by 'entry level'; every company has it's own definition. In any case, I started this thread to help others who have questions about this job opportunity and to gether information for my own employment needs. Good luck, everyone!
Entry level is normally "utility" which is not very well paid. You then have to wait until you have minimum 3 months experience and then you can "bid" for other positions that become available.
If you submit an application and are accepted into the "job pool", you then wait for a position to become available and your resume to be pulled (from 300 - 400 other resumes) by a supervisor and then interviewed.
Most positions pay fairly well once you are above Utility level, expect 12 hours shifts, 4 days on, 4 days off, rotating days and nights. Expect to work short notice overtime and attend meetings on days off.
LPI, do you work for Nucor and know this process first hand? Also, if my resume indicates 15+ years of experience in plant operations, would I necessarily have to start as entry level?
Phil, we may need an additional forum started for Boeing next! Wanna take the lead on that?
No, I don't work at Nucor. But I am in the Job Pool and have been for over a year. Nucor is not a quick fix if you need a job now. I don't know whether your experience would get you a non entry position or how you would go about it. You could try and contact Nucor HR dept directly by phone.
There are many jobs available in Charleston area, but companies that pay well in this area have huge responses to any job postions.
This is pure heresay, but I was told by a UPS driver that they had 17,000 applications for temp seasonal driver assistant positions. Not because of the pay, but due to the fact it is the best way to get a full time position with UPS which does pay well.
Nucor have changed the method and possibly the testing requirements. Until they notify applicants, only Nucor knows what is the current situation.
