Apartments and suggestions in Charleston...need some advice from locals
There is a possibility that I will be relocating to Charleston from PA. Would like to get some advice about apartments across the area? I am a 30 year old female and single, so I would like something close to shopping, walking paths or safe areas within a neighborhood to run and would like to be near other professionals. I would be travelling to North Charleston for work. I have driven through James Island, Riverland and Peninsula developments, which seem really nice but how is the drive from there to N. Charleston during rush hour? What other areas are recommended?
Also any advice on clubs to join for volunteering opportunities or clubs to meet people my age and do different activities would be great as well.

Summerville is nice, and you can join the YMCA here...

Hi,
If looking for apartments I would try apartments.com or craigslist.org.
You may find that your choice of apartment limits your choice of location unless you rent a single family or townhouse. A lot will depend on your budget as well.
Traffic is generally lighter than most peoples expectations even in rush hour, but it still can get pretty heavy on I 526 and I 26 becoming "stop/start".
If you mean The Peninsula and Rivertowne, the drive along Clements Ferry Road can get slow but mainly when travelling towards I 526 at busy times.
Have a look at the Charleston Parks & Recreation Commission (CCPRC) website, this might influence your choice of location and give you some where to run. CCPRC also has a volenteer program.
I would also check out Craigslist.org/communtity and meetup.com for groups and volenteer opportunities.

I think he/she meant "The Peninsula" and "Riverland Apts" on James Island off Folly Rd. Folly Rd. at morning rush can get pretty hectic towards downtown, but heading away from downtown Charleston it clears right up. Depending on where you were headed in North Charleston, you could probably get there in 30-45 minutes during rush hour.

We just moved from PA to Mt Pleasant in October. We are renting a 2 stry condo near Rifle Range and Coleman. There are a lot of young professionals in this development. My husband works in N Charleston and it takes him 20 minutes. He goes straight up 526 and hardly ever hits traffic.
