When we visited Charleston recently we came in via Amtrak to the North Charleston station. I posted here about it and from the responses I thought we were going to arrive in the ghetto slums, but it wasn't like that at all. Just industrial with birds chirping at 6 am and no vagrants. I think we saw a good bit of Charleston while we were there, and coming from Baltimore, the bad areas definitely didn't look like the Balt/DC slums.
