Some of you might remember my posts from 2008 where my husband and I took trips to the Carolinas and were looking for a place to retire to. So many areas of the Carolinas are beautiful so making a decision where was a tough one. When we took our trip to Chareston we knew we wanted to move there, but with me still in the work force it seemed almost impossible to gain employment even though I am in the healthcare field. Priority always went to the local people looking for work and not people from out of state, which I completely understand.
Last month our home finally sold in RI after 2 years and we thought we would be moving to Charlotte, where my son and his family live, but still I had no job, so we were a little afraid of moving there, but it was more affordable than Charleston so we went with it. At the very last minute there was a glitch in the sale of our home and consequently that held up the sale of our new home in Charlotte. What happens next is just amazing! An add online for a job in my field in Charleston!! I couldn't believe my eyes. I immediately applied for it and within one day had a phone interview, the next day a conference line interview, and last week they wanted a face to face interview so we drove down. Needless to say I was happy to get the job. We still will only be 3 hours from my son in Charlotte and we'll be living in the place we always dreamed of being.
I read the Charleston forums all the time and see the bad things and the good things about the area but seriously, every place has their good and bad points, but you can't deny the beauty, culture, history and absolutley devine food you have in the Charleston area. It is unmatchable in my book. I am thrilled beyond words and Saturday is moving day here in RI and then it's off to Charleston to start the rest of my life.
Patty

Pattig,
I remember reading your posts in the Charlotte forum. I didn't realize you had a change of plans. So happy something worked out so well for you! (I'm planning a trip to Charleston soon, so I'm lurking here as well.)

Enjoy your new hometown!
