My wife and I (26 and 30) are looking to relocate to Charleston this summer. We plan on coming down to see rentals soon but would like to narrow down the search. What areas should we focus on? ---- We do not have children and are hoping to find a younger area/neighborhood to move into. Any suggestions???
The big questions are:where will you be working (location wise); what you want for recreation;
and what is your price range.
Young people are scattered pretty evenly throughout the area. And some areas (like downtown or Park Circle in North Chuck) that are not so family friendly in terms of schools are great for a young couple. A lot of people like to live near if not on the beaches (so James Island for Folly and Mt Pleasant for Sullivans/Isle of Palms.) The Avondale/Byrnes Down are of West Ashley attracts some young people because it is walking distance to bars/restaurants.
I will say if yu can afford a place downtown you should live there at least once. When you throw a family, schools, a need for more space into the mix it knocks almost everyone out of downtown $ wise so its nice to be there before it all kicks in.
As of right now the tentative area for work would be the North Charleston area. Nothing is set in stone yet as we are just in the intitial panning stages. Recreation we would be looking along the lines of sports. Biking, walking, volleyball etc.... Additionally a good social scene never hurt anyone! Regarding the price range I would say initially 750-1000 for a rental. That is just an estimate as many other factors could contribute to how much we could afford.
Thanks for all the help!
