Hanahan, although a town in itself, has become more like a subdivision of the city of North Charleston. It's been swallowed up and completely surrounded by the much larger city.
I used to rent an apartment there before buying a home in Goose Creek and it isn't one of the best places to live. There are some sections that are older, nicer homes but the majority of the town is rental properties and is definitely NOT one of the safest places in the Chas. area to live.
If you are considering moving to this area, I would suggest the "West Ashley" portion of the City of Charleston, Summerville, or Goose Creek. All are nice areas and are growing rapidly.
