Hello,
After years of back and forth between Charleston and Columbia I was just offered a job in Charleston that I think I will love! I just interviewed and got the offer and they want me there ASAP; which will likely be the beginning of June after my daughter gets out of school. I feel like I am rushing but need information quick. My home in Michigan hasn't sold yet so I am looking to rent. Any ideas? The business has locations in North Charleston by the outlet mall and also in Mount Pleasant so something relatively close. I have pets and though most can stay back in MI with my hubby till he moves and we buy a house I want to bring at least 1 dachshund. I looked at extended stay hotels but in Charleston they don't allow pets like they do here.

Next, my daughter will be entering 7th grade and I need a GOOD/SAFE/ school that will welcome her. this is the MOST important thing to me so I have to rent in the area of the school she will attend. Can anyone help with school recommendations? Public or Private?

This is such a great area for information and I do truly appreciate all the honest feedback and opinions.

Thanks!!!!!!!

If you're thinking Public schools, I'd recommend looking at Mount Pleasant, especially if you'll be working there some/most of the time anyway. Mount P has some of the best public schools around. Mount Pleasant should also have quite a few rentals available now. How much home and rent are you looking for?

All of the schools in Mt. Pleasant received an "excellent" score on the most recent "SC Report Card" reporting period with the exception of Laing Middle School which received a "good" score. I hope the links work below

Mt. Pleasant Public Schools

Wando High School

The town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina has some of the best public schools in the State. The schools consistently score high in the various tests administered by the SC Department of Education and a large percentage of the graduating class of Wando High School go on to college.

My daughters go to Cario (one is still at Cario the other is a senior at wando) and I have been very happy with the school and their education. There are rentals in Mount Pleasant assuming you need a 2 bedroom at least they start at $900 for a condo to $1200 for a duplex and over for a SFH. These are all on MLS. There are also apartments to look into. Not many but I recommend Belle Hall, Edgewater, The legends @Charleston national (not sure if the are still for rent) and Paces Watch.

I think all the Mount Pleasant schools are excellent. I use to think, stay away from Laing but it wasn't due to the education just the facility. But now Laing is at Old Wando until they build a new school so I think it is fine.

Since your working in Mount Pleasant I would stay in Mount Pleasant. But Summerville is another option. Just be prepared for a 45 minute commute.

45 minute comute to N. Charleston from Summerville?

Since when, I drive everday from Knightsville to Huger and that only takes me 45 minutes......

Summerville is cheaper for her and the government schools are just as good.....

She told me she was getting the job in Mount Pleasant. From North Charleston no it wouldn't be 45 minutes and yes Summerville is a great place to live also.

Maybe when I buy I will look at different areas; especially since the business is discussing expansion to summerville. right now this is moving quickly and so I will have less then 1month to find a rental, get down there and investigate schools.

My daughter has never been labeled with any disorder but gets a lot of resource room help at school and doesn't excel in school without lots of help. She has a para-pro to go to classes with her and the school she is in now is wonderful at helping her. I think they call it special education but without a firm label. I looked at Trident Academy which looked perfect but then I saw it was 24k per year.

Anyone with kids who struggle go to schools with resources to help and are those also in Mount Pleasant?
Thanks again everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Faith Christian academy took my best friends nephew from being labeled LD/ED self contained to reading above grade lvl and slightly below in math in less than a year........

I always advocate private schools over government schools.....
