I'm contemplating a move to the Charleston, WV area. Between Direct TV, Dish TV and Comcast which...

1) has the best reception?

2) has the best overall price (please ignore the 3 month lower teaser rates they use to lure customers)

3) has the bet packages (VoIP, high speed internet, etc.)

4) would you recommend and which would you avoid ?

5) Are there any other recommended providers?

I dont know about that area, but you cant beat Directv! They have awesome customer service, not that you'll need it, since it would be very rare to have problems. Dish is the Worst! I wouldnt take it if it were free. Having them was like not having a tv service, and when we had trouble, they didnt care. I dont know anything about cable, havent had it since the 80's or 90's.

My wife and I have had DirectTV for over 13 year. They've been awesome as far as I'm concerned.

I would rather cut my privates off and eat them over having ever Comcast again... Does that clarify my position? ha ha

I would go with either Dish or Direct. Dish Network offers local news channels which is awesome, but Direct TV seems to have a little bit better programing available in their packages. They both seem about the same in pricing.

I had DirecTV for a couple of years. Video quality and channel selection were terrific. However, anytime that a thunderstorm was within a couple of miles, reception would drop. This would cause a reboot which would take, if I recall correctly, about five to seven minutes to complete. During that time, no TV. If the bad weather was lengthy, reception would drop multiple times.

But the main reason why I would never recommend DirecTV to anyone is because of what occurred when I informed them that I wanted to discontinue service. The details are too many to list and the entire ordeal covered a laborious three month time stretch. But suffice to say that they did everything they could…including denial of statements made and other less-than-truthful business practices….to try to force me to keep their service.

Huh. We moved 3 times since having DirecTV and everytime they come out and set it up for free. We upgraded to digital in Bridgeport WV- new dish and receiver for free. We moved to Montana- they brought out another upgraded receiver for free..

I guess we better not leave or else they may backcharge us!!
