Default Visiting Charleston

I'm going to be in Charleston this upcomming weekend. Any suggestions for attractions? I'm 25 and looking for some good nightlife options for my age group and some places to explore in general, specifically some sort of music venue would be nice. Are there any good Mexican restaurants or throwback diners, what would you suggest for food?

THROW SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR A GOOD TIME AT ME !!!!!!!

Night Life is not something Charleston offers, sorry

but there is lots of other stuff you can do!

Clay Center for Arts & Science is cool and they have a Imax dome theater. The Cultural center is cool, but I don't know when its open or if its open. The Charleston Town Center is a 3 level downtown mall that has some cool stores and restaurants. downtown in general has alot of really cool stores, restaurants, art galleries, coffee shops, bars, ect.... Probably some night clubs, but I'm not into that kind of stuff.

Music you have Live on the Levi this friday night at Haddad Riverfront Park, there is live music at Capital Roasters which is a cafe in downtown. Also I think Charleston Idol is going on this weekend. Might be some bands playing at the LaBelle Theater in South Charleston

Heck, If i were you I'd take a drive down to Kanawha Falls, Hawks Nest, New River Gorge, ect... down US 60.

If you like art, architecture, walking, then take a nice walk through downtown and the historic district in Charleston's East End. There is alot of really nice old houses, and churches. Plus the Capitol Complex is on the east end!

Good Mexican Restaurants

Rio Grande---downtown and in Nitro
Cozumel--- Ashton Place on US 119 South
La Carreta--- Kanawha Mall and Elkview

Other good restaurants

Blossom Deli--- downtown on Quarrier St.
Pints and Pies--- downtown on Capital St.
Leonoro's Spaghetti House--- East End Washington St.
Blue Grass Kitchen--- "
Chris'--- Washington St. West Side
Graziano's Pizza--- Capital St. and Riverwalk Plaza South Charleston
Capital Roasters Cafe--- downtown Summers St.
for more options just ask........

Tell me what you like to do and I might be able to help

I think there is a bar called 101 on Capital St that looks like it would be fun, there are others too.

Of course Walmart is open 24/7

There's a Hooters on MacCorkle, a few bars, nothing I would really write home about.

Since they are so close, you might check out Huntington as well. The two cities are only about 45 min apart and having Marshall here, there is a pretty goo local music scene. Then you could also see some of the stuff in between like Hurricane, Scott Depot, Milton, Barboursville, etc.

For the music scene, the V-Club seems to have some good acts on a regular basis. A website called Huntington Underground has a great calendar on all of the local shows too. We also have a Funny Bone Comedy Club here if you like live Comedy.

There are several great restaurants around but if you are looking for a throwback atmosphere, we have the real thing here. Jim's Steak and Spaghetti opened in 1938 and the decor has changed little over the years. If you go, make sure to bring cash though because they still don't even take credit/debit cards.

Oh I almost forgot Comedy Zone Charleston

Welcome to The Comedy Zone

but you know, like tbailey said you might like Huntington better because it is more of a college town. Charleston is the business in the front and family in the back kinda city with not really alot to do for younger adults.

Also your Pittsburgh Pirates own the WV Power here in Charleston and they have home games all weekend lomg.

Do you like to gamble???

Mardi Gras Casino and Racing is a pretty nice casino with live greyhound racing. Plus they have both slots and table games.

Personally, I like the Mexican food at Los Agaves in South Charleston. Everyone who has been there raves about Pies and Pints, and a friend told me they have great beers on tap at Boulevard Tavern. If there is a concert at the LaBelle Friday evening, it will probably be a patriotic lead in to the Armed Forces Day parade on Saturday.
