Default WOWK-TV moving to Charleston

TV station moving to Charleston building* - Business - Charleston Daily Mail - West Virginia News and Sports -

"Most of WOWK-TV's Huntington staff and all of its Charleston staff will move early next year into offices on Quarrier Street, said Bray Cary, president and chief executive officer of the station's owner, West Virginia Media Holdings."

"WOWK-TV's new office will be on the ground floor, facing Quarrier Street. The space has its own entrance and its own parking. It is on the west end of the building, adjacent to the Charleston Town Center's Quarrier Street parking garage."

Sad for a station that started in Huntington and considering that the Huntington studio is its main studio. It sounds like they are doing what WSAZ did except in reverse and to a larger degree. WSAZ moved many of the Charleston jobs to Huntington last year because of the changes in digital technology but they kept the Charleston studio.

It sounds like WOWK will still have a Huntington studio but it will be MUCH smaller.

With Bray Cary involved, this doesn't really surprise me. The man single handedly ruined WOWK and its quality has gone way down since he took over. He claims to be doing this to help ratings but I imagine this will hurt them even more. WSAZ gets a huge percentage of the viewing market and this likely won't sit well with many in Huntington. This will likely cause them to lose more viewers and is probably the reason they are losing long time anchor Sandra Cole. That will hurt them as well.

They just need to go out and find some new talent. Like that hottie Jessica Ralston at WSAZ!

Tbail I'm not thinking as you do. Huntington just opened up an opportunity for local artists in need if studio space. Add that studio to a list of assets here: West Virginia Film Office | Film Tax Credits | Film Locations in WV | WV Production Services Directory | wvfilm.com

As for TV ratings- I never bothered hooking one up to notice any of the channels. I'm on the net, commercial free radio and rent films. Keeps the insufferable ad men off me.

Very true. This building could become a wonderful new asset for Huntington if utilized properly. It is a great location for sure.
