I'm planning to move to Charleston, WV withinn the next two years. I've decided to get a head start and look for an area with a nice, friendly, affordable and safe neighborhood. I have two children ages 12yrs and 9yrs, so I'll need a good middle and high schools to provide great education. I'm also in school for nursing and would like to find a community college or university to transfer to. I like to have fun which includes nightclubs & shopping, so an area with those places in reach would do just fine. If anyone has any idea on a good place to live, learn, hangout, work and raise a family, please inform me. Thanks!

Then you have come to the right place. Charleston, WV offers all these things for a fraction of the price as a bigger city.

Sounds like you would be happy in South Hills or South Charleston are. Because these two areas are probably located closer to the most services and attractions.

I'd agree with Silk, but I'd add Kanawha City to that list.

You can't beat Charleston in terms of getting your money's worth and still having the highest quality. We have the best public schools, and hospitals. Plus we have an active downtown and are currently growing. We also have outdoor recrearion, and tons to do all within a short drive, or in some cases in town.

I'm sure you will love it here!

Getting a head start is a great idea. My son just moved to Charleston and it took four weeks to find a decent rental unit for his family of two girls and two dogs.

It would be easier if you are buying.

South Hills should be your #1 pick. Kanawha city is nice place to live but the school district is worse. It you have 300.000+ to spend on your new home South Hills is your place.

Just for the record, you can find a place in South hills for alot less than 300k. Maybe not with a view of downtown, but I'd say most houses range from 90k-2050k with a select few above and as high as millions. Cost of Living here is great.

I doubt about 90.000. 200+ is more realistic price. Recently I saw a house sold for 320 very fast and it was way below it's real price. That's why it was sold within a month. Get good agent and you'll find good place. It's buyer's market nowadays.
