Since 2002 the East End of Charleston, or East End Main Street, has been working hard to establish itself as a revamped cultural and business location. The group responsable for the hardwork is getting rewarded with the neighborhood becoming a finalist for the 2012 Great American Main Street Award. This would be such an honor for a community that has come from the bottom up, and has created new business and one of the best neighborhoods in the state of WV. The area includes the State Capitol Complex, Cultural Center, Historic East End Neighborhood, The award winning Capital Market, The Clay Center, Appalachain Power Park, and some of the best city parks, public art, restaurants, shops, and schools in the State (If not the best).

Did the group develop the Capital Complex, Cultural Center, and Power Park? I wasn't aware of that. I thought state taxpayers did the first two and Bob Nutting the last. I certainly agree that the Capital Market and East End improvements are nice.
Here is an article about East End Main Street and their leader in today's paper. Pretty nice read, and shows just how hard this guy and team has worked over the past few years.
East End has town down several dilapidated buildings, worked on getting the Dollar Store on Washington St, getting buildings fixed up at Wash & Elizabeth St., and getting businesses to use low profile signs instead of big, high ugly things on poles. The East End is a better place for the efforts of the Association.
p.s. The East End Association is not building the new library.
