Hi, I might have to move to Charleston here in a few months and was wondering where the best/safest places in the city to live? I am 25 years old and still do night life and would like a "busy" area. Not asking much, just wondering where the best place to live in the city is. THanks.

Downtown is my recommendation. It is "busy" as u have requested and pretty cool too. There are some decent to good apartments as well, if that's what you want. Clubs are there too. The mall is also located downtown so that is certainly convenient. I'm not too sure about safety though. I would say that the area is average compared to the rest of charleston. The areas that are safer would be found away from the "busy" downtown and away from the clubs.

Hope this helped

Which apartments do you recommend? I live 3 hours away and can't just venture down and check it out.

Are you single? If so, I would also recommend downtown. I have no idea what is available for rent as I do not live there but if I was single it is where I would look to rent if I wanted to be where the stuff happens.

Even in the downtown area that might not be what you are used to in another area.

Downtown has pockets of pretty nice areas, but it also has an equal number of questionable areas. Most of the nightlife happens around Capitol, Summers, and adjacent blocks. But there is also a stretch of Washington Street on the East End that is beginning to gentrify and has some potential.

It would be my girlfriend and I moving there. I have lived in cities such as Canton, Ohio and Columbus, OH so I know how the city living is, just wasn't sure what charleston had to offer. Safety is also another concern. I know most downtown cities the downtown area is the big crime spot. Is that the case here? I am trying to find apartments in the downtown area and I can't seem to find any in search. Mainly what I would like it so be in a place where people will be, not some small burb where people don't leave there home.

Downtown Charleston would not come close to these other cities. It is kinda dead downtown outside of work hours. However, crime is not a big issue.

Charleston does not come close to Columbus -Cbus is huge, but Canton?? You ever been there? ever been to Charleston? Canton hardly comes close to Charleston, but Canton is huge compared to the village of Morgantown.

Crime really isn't going to be a major concern. There isn't anywhere in Charleston where you will find a large group of people out late into the evening regularly.
