Hi, my husband and I are considering a house in the north part of Charleston WV, north of 60, on the outskirts, near Edgewood Country Club. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what this part of town is like?? Basically, I just want to make sure it is a low crime area where a female can walk around at night and feel safe?
Are there any dangerous, high crime neighborhoods in Charleston? Any recommendations on the safest AND most affordable areas to live?
In the Edgewood area, generally it is safe, but your are just up the hill from the roughest part of town Charleston's West Side. If you want a neighborhood safe to walk around at night, try Kanawha City on the river side of MacCorkle Ave. Also if you don't have to be right in town, Pinch is a solid neighborhood 5 mins north of downtown. Most of Charleston is affordable, but the more expensive areas include South Hills, East End (South of Washington street), and right along the river in Kanawha City.
Any other concerns I can help with? Schools, amenities, parks, etc...?
I agree with ChrisCross. The Edgewood area is a good residential area. Part of the flat section of the West Side is where the druggies and shooters moved after the police ran them out of the East End north of Washington St. If you are attracted to the Edgewood area, you would probably like South Hills too.
Thank you! That is helpful. I do have one further concern, regarding the amount of sunshine, but I posted it as a separate thread. (I am still trying to get the hang of how this forum works.) Thanks again.
