I realized that we really didn't have a solid thread for news of new business and job creation. Here we can discuss things that aren't retail related like our restaurant/store thread.

First up:

Charleston Gazette-Mail | Planned WV methanol plant gets EDA loan

Anytime we see our existing chemical infrastructure being upgraded and or expanded upon is great news for the area. We will certainly take 50 additional jobs as well! We have the ability here to utilize the natural gas industry in ways that other parts of the state cannot. We have facilities and trained workers already in place to process the gas for various byproducts of it. Pipelines from the north, as well as the development of the Rogersville Shale would create an environment to put the chemical valley in a prime location for growth.

WV MetroNews – New Tesla vehicle charging stations set up in Charleston

Any development like this in our area is the step in the right direction! That block has become a hotbed for new development within that last few years with the FBI building an office building there, Courtyard by Marriott opening up, a new Starbucks that just opened a couple months ago, and a new Wendy's that is replacing the former Wendy's that sat there. The Tesla station will draw travelers downtown that might have not stopped had there not been a recharging station there.

Are these charging stations only for Tesla automobiles?

If so, is this really a great need (meaning the number in the picture) since very few Tesla autos are in WV because our legislature and former governor made it nearly impossible to purchase one by requiring them to be sold through dealerships?

I think it is good to have charging stations but the stations should fit all types of autos that need a charger.

People with electric cars on long road trips plan their rest stops much more carefully based on where charging stations are. As such these chargers will probably attract some out of town money to the Charleston economy that wouldn't have necessarily been there before. Not a game changer but a nice benefit.

It appears the nearest ChargePoint station (the most flexible pay charging co that I've found in the northeast) is in Columbus, there are none in WV.

Charleston Gazette-Mail | New senior living complex may be built in Charleston

I mentioned this in another thread, but here the paper has covered the story. The renderings look pretty neat and should be a great addition to the area.

Has it officially opened yet? Last time I saw it (a couple weeks ago), they were still waiting on the main electrical box from Mon Power to be installed but looked like it would be done soon. Location wise, it is in a great area, right at I-68 and I-79 interchange.

I believe Tesla is also installing a station in Weston, WV right now (edit: just looked, they are currently building one at the Sheetz in Weston and at a Sheetz in Beckley).

They're likely taking advantage of previously unutilized infrastructure in building that plant. I'd bet they will be building some of these in Marshall County too, in the chemical production area between Moundsville and New Martinsville and located right in the natural gas fields. These developments are nice, and provide for a boost to the local tax base but they are not labor intensive. At $10 million invested, they are investing $200,000 for each job. The payoff might depend largely on whether or not they are union jobs.
