Hello, my husband and I are looking for some information on moving to Charleston area for nursing job outlook. I am wondering if anyone can give me any info on how the job market is for nurses there. I am also in a nurse practitioner program and am wondering if anyone has any info on the current job outlook for NPs in the area. My nursing experience is about 4 years in the hospital environment. Also, for anyone who has relocated to the area, can you provide any advice on making the process a smooth transition? We have one child and she is only 1 year old so thankfully we don't have to worry about finding the right school district yet. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) operates five hospitals and also employees many doctors in various specialty practices. I think they have over 1000 beds and >5000 employees They are always needing people. Thomas Health Systems operates two hospitals and a few clinics as well as managing doctor groups. MedExpress has a number of clinics around the Charleston area. Genesis Health Systems operates some nursing homes and assisted living places. I've even seen advertising lately for home health care companies looking for people. I wouldn't think it would be hard to find a job. CAMC is a teaching hospital, so they may be able to provide what you need in the NP for PA field. My own physician has a PA working in her office, so a NP should be able to find a place too.

I agree with Mensa, the hospitals are always looking for nurses and there is a large presence of healthcare here from day surgery centers, doctors offices, and clinics. I would start looking with CAMC, they are the big dog in town.
