Hi Everyone,
As you may have already read in previous threads, we're looking to relocate and it looks like Charleston is where we'll be headed. I'd appreciate any info on good neighborhoods or neighborhoods to avoid. We have a 2nd grader, so we would like to be in George Washington High School track (Holz, Overbrook, or Weberwood Elementary). We've been looking into the South Hills area, looks great on the surface but some feedback would be much appreciated.

Much thanks

South Hills is a great place in Charleston. As well as the small community of Mink Shoals. A few miles outside of Charleston is Pinch...which is lovely and has big lots and good sized family homes. 20-30 min drive from Charleston is Scott Depot, Teays Valley, and Hurricane which are all great places. I would definitely look into Pinch!!

Ma'am:

I am a lifelong resident of Charleston and you should look at the South Hills area. All of the schools you listed are good ones. I went to Overbrook(getting ready to add on because of overcrowding and eliminating portable classrooms) as a child and I currently have a child in K at Holz. Weberwood is nice and Kenna is also in South Hills. All four of these schools have great test scores and have been ranked exemplary by the State and National organizations.

South Hills, Lauden heights, Kanawha City, Mt Aplpha, Fox Chase- are the best neighborhoods. (did i miss others?) If u don't mind driving- look at Hurricaine: you could save 20-30% BUT it will take 40 min minimum to get to Charleston IF there is no traffic. I thought about Harricaine but decided to enjoy traffic-free Charleston. I think one should enjoy it; I think it's a nonsence to put yourself in a daily 30-40 commute to Charleston instead of living here and have traffic-free 10-15 minutes commute. 3+/gallon gas will make the price differens minimal pretty soon

Thanks everyone,

We don't want to be all the way out in the Hurricane area, too far, we want to be near Charleston. I'm glad to hear there are so many nice places in Charleston to choose from. I'm w/ you Big Al, why commute if you don't have to.

Take South Ridge or St. Albans area. Maybe South Charleston, I like it there. Stay away from West/East sides of Charleston. Kanawha city isn't bad either. I don't really know the housing opportunities at the current time.
