It appears you have a mind set for Charleston. However, you should be aware that Marshall University in Huntington has a nationally recognized program for autism. There are areas in Cabell/Wayne/Mason that would fit with what you appear to be looking for in a new home. Huntington also has hospitals so employment would not be a problem there either.

I don't live in Charleston or Huntington so I am not trying to "run you off" or "steal you away". LOL

Let me know if you need any info about Huntington or the surrounding areas, if you want to look in this area as you search.

Also note that Charleston and Huntington are only around 52 miles apart from each other. It may be possible to set up house in one of the suburbs that are in-between the two cities. That way you have the best of possible jobs, entertainment, and medical facilities of both places. Map.

Default Huntington

I would love any info about Huntington as well. It seems like both cities are wonderfull. We love the maps and would love to be rural and live between. How is the crime in these cities and between as we have a small boy? School diff? And medical facilities?

Living in between Huntington and Charleston can offer you many different types of living. You can live in some of the bustling suburbs such as Hurricane/Scott Depot/Barboursville, or you can live even more rural such as Culloden/Winfield/Buffalo. Culloden is a nice little community in between Milton and Hurricane. Your close enough to the interstate that you won't feel isolated. It's about 20 minutes east of Huntington and 35 minutes west of Charleston.

I hope you realize this ain't Las Vegas or NYC. There ain't a decent kosher or chicken joint around. Also the biggest culture around here is yogurt.

I was very partial to Barboursville myself & nearly took the leap if not for being outside the micro climate Charleston has in it's favor. A foot of snow could dump in St Albans and Charleston gets a dusting. Same with Summersville direction. Different strokes for different folks, though.

Huntington is more dangerous than Charleston, in my opinion. Huntington has a lot of drug related violence. I'm a 25 year old woman, and I wouldn't walk in Huntington after dark by myself. I currently live in Charleston, and have no problems walking around by myself after dark.
