We probably won't be in the area past elementary school.

Price point is around $400K.

We looked at a few homes in Baxter Village - something about that development made me feel like I'd be a Stepford Wife, though. Did I just get a weird impression?

As far as Tega Cay goes, neither my husband or I get it! We saw a little area that might be considered a park - there was a parking lot, a few picnic tables and a beach the size of my front yard. We saw 1 woman pushing a stroller (This was mid-day on Monday)

I guess we'll tour the Lake Norman area next time we're in town. Thanks all!

Fort Mill / tega cay - better schools than NC, lower taxes, and the less congestion

Palisades has beautiful houses, but schools in that area aren't on par with ft mill

The advice on looking beyond Elem school is not just for your kids - it will impact your resale value... Just something to think about.

I am thinking about this area and FYI there are nuclear power plants approx 13 miles (Catawba) and Clover, SC from what I've read. Don't know if this is a concern for you at all.

Unless you want to live out west, you're going to have to contend with nuclear power plants - they are in more places than you probably realize:

NRC: Find Operating Nuclear Power Reactors by Location or Name

Check out Christenbury Village just across the Meck line in Cabarrus CO. I live near there and the prices range from 290-600K... Beautiful gated community. Also Highland Creek and Skybrook are close by with Golf. The area feels more rural. Lake Norman is very crowded. Dont know too much about the Ft.Mill area Cabarrus has an excellant school system.

Also check out both Lake Wylie and Lake Norman if boating is important. Lake Norman is much bigger with more to offer.

Tega Cay is GREAT!!! Right off Hwy 160 on Gold Hill Road. If you're into Asian cuisine there's a great place called "Red Bowl" in the Lowe's Food shopping center. MMMMMM!!

Yeah, like bigger crowds and more craziness on the water.

I'm a Lake Wylie fan instead
