I think their flat rate boxes might accomodate up to 70 pounds
but not certain about that.

Try FEDEX. They're usually a little cheaper. are you shipping "Ground" Or "Surface"? Or are trying to do an Overnight or 2nd Day type of shippment?

If you schedule a pickup for tomorrow or simply just bring it to your local FEDEX location, you could send it "Surface" (which means Ground shipping) and it should be there well before July 3rd.

Once it arrives there, you can schedule a pick-up for July 8th; so it can be shipped back to you.

Try Greyhound. I just went to the website and put in a declared value of $1,000, longest length of 1 side @ 70" and got a price of $139.00. Looks like it is worth a look.

Okay, now that I'm done working I can complete my thought, lol.

Last week I shipped a audio preamplifier to Plainfield, Illinois; via FED EX Ground. It weighed 26.80 lbs and it cost me $24.80 ( that's with $200.00 worth of insurance protection on it). FEDEX covers the first $100.00 of insurance (should there be any damage). The customer pays extra for more insurance.

Now, the dimensions of a box is going to have an impact on the over all price.

Some how, I have a difficult time imaging a 70 lbs box costing $700.00.

Unless the dimensions are huge and you're looking to ship overnight or 2nd Day...or something.

Call FEDEX or use their on-line quote function and see what they quote you.

DHL only does international Air Express between countries, now. They don't ship point A to point B within the United States, anymore.

Is the July 3rd date a firm one? If not, check out UShip. You can list the item for free and moving companies will submit bids. If you're willing to be flexible on date, you'll get lower bids. Good Luck!

Yup - do the ground option...or look into FedEx "home delivery" which is essentially the same thing.

I shipped a box of office stuff that was probably close to 50 pounds down here from DC when we moved via FedEx ground and it cost me less than $50. They will not guarantee a specific delivery date, but if you send it at least a week in advance you should be ok. But I would keep in mind that you'll probably want it delivered by Friday July 1, because of the holiday weekend.
