Yes, but you have to slow down if it is not possibl to change lanes.
Oh right, absolutely. People in the passing lanes need to be aware that when they see an emergency vehicle stopped on the side of the road they MUST allow cars on the outside lane to merge over!

There, I've purged my road-rage :-) (until I drive home tonight!)
LOL that's me I always have to look, but at least I know how to use the merging lanes. I don't drive the lake at rush hour, only after hours and on the weekend so I'm not bothering anyone. That would aggrevate me too.

Before you hurl expletives my way (), let me just say that I commute from Fort Mill to Charlotte at the end of both commuting times. Despite this, it has only been a handful of times over the past 10 months of living here that my commute has been ridiculously long, and most times it's for a SERIOUS accident. I've been pleased that for the most part my commuting speed doesn't slow down due to a car on the side of the road, a cop with flights flashing, or even a minor fender bender. And the day a few months ago when nails were scattered all over 77N and forcing cars left and right to pull over with flat tires? I don't think I went under 50 mph the entire one-mile stretch that had no less than TEN CARS pulled over changing flats.
That was the morning that made me realize how much I like commuting in Charlotte.
I agree, I had to get my daughter to the airport today, I left work on Westinghouse at 4:30 got home to Huntersville at 5:05 and I was back down at the airport 25 minutes later. Think that would happen in Phoenix at rush hour. ha ha!
We don't really experience traffic problems up here, especially with the expansion of Hwy 16.
I will say about the rubbernecking: Yes, the cumulative effect is aggravating, but it is human nature. If any of you can say that you have never looked to see what is going on, more power to you.
Over the years, I have learned that my life is more important that some imaginiary offense on the highway. You will be much happier if you can just let go of the things you cannot control, and use the time to listen to some nice music or slow your mind and think about things in your life. It is a great sense of freedom when you can rise above it and get beyond it, maintaining control of yourself and your emotions. It's also much safer.
To the fire fighter: God bless you. I don't know anyone who does not move as far out of the way as possible. What kind of an arrogant, misguided soul would believe their commute more important that your saving someone's life? You ought to be able to photograph these people's tag and the police should ticket them no questions asked. THANK YOU for EVERYTHING YOU DO! I always say a prayer for you guys when I see the lights.
