I'm sure many here probably saw the story in the Observer (http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2010/06/10/1491695/rare-slavery-photo-found-in-charlotte.html - broken link) about a week ago concerning the rare old photo of slave children found at a sale in Charlotte. As it turns out, there were already copies that could be found on Ebay, but the collector, who paid 30 thousand dollars for the photo, is confident the one he bought was the original. Either way, it was a stunning photo, and I thought it might make for an interesting thread to have people post any photos they know of showing people from that time period that they find compelling in some way. Below are several that I've discovered from various online collections including the photo mentioned above:

I have one that I believe was taken during the Civil War, in Indiana, so I suppose that it's inappropriate for here. It's 2 aunts of one of my great grandfathers. Through a series of events in the family, they had to help out one person after another, until they were about 40. I'm pretty sure that it was taken during the Civil War because they apparently had bought a set of hoops for their skirts & had shared the hoop set. My guess would be that a lot of women in the south did the same thing (share a set of hoops).

Margaret & Hortentia McCloughan, in Kosciusko County Indiana.
I also have a g-g-great uncle in an Indiana state uniform for the 30th Indiana, but there might be a copyright problem with that picture.
