Default Charlotte - A new City 2020

Moved out of Charlotte but at times cant get Charlotte out of my mind.....If I ever move back to Charlotte. This is what I would like to see in Charlotte. You'all can add more fun and interesting stuff you would like to see in New Charlotte.

1. More restaurants, not the chains but those operated by individuals and families that dish out variety not only specific to South but those that provide a more global flavour.
2. Museums and art galleries. Not just for the artsy folks but for artistically challenged like me. Showing pieces of art that are readily apparent. (Its just me, but I dont get the abstract strokes or random colors. Paint a fort or flower that comes close to a realistic impression and Iam impressed. Frankly Iam laughing when people try to find the hidden meaning in abstract paintings. Then I realize it must be just me in the gallery who doesnt getit.)
3. Bars or watering holes with music. Jazz, Blues, country or any live music thats quality (read no screaming, ranting or raving about the miseries if life - we have enough of that in daily life)
4. Well maintained and manicured parks with walking, jogging, cycling trails.
5. Tall highrises with old Architecture in uptown Charlotte. I totally dislike the glass, brick and concrete monsters, a couple of those for variety I can live with but a city full .....
6. Shows be it art, cinema, food, music, photography, sports but real quality stuff not the ones we see organized for the sake of it.
7. An international convention center that attracts companies or products to be showcased from around the world.
8. An artist village for international artist...even amateur artists and students who can have the best studios and setting to learn and practice their art. Instead of building houses catering to Section 8!!!!!!!
9. I couldnt resist the last one.....something on the lines of Sun City...We have Charleston that caters to cruising, two international cities within an hours flying time. CDA a hub for leading airlines. Charlotte should get more than it deserves. Charlotte needs options and more options that people can choose from.

.....add yours to make it a more complete list for a new Charlotte of dreams!!!

True said.....the air tickets are expensive no matter where you are flying out of Charlotte. The expansion of the current airport both in terms of size and no. of flights to international destinations are increasing which is a good sign.

More jobs...well job being a by product of the industries the campaign should be geared over attracting investments. Finance and Banking are well represented and they have carried the Charlotte story far and beyond. Other sectors are not as well represented. People on this forum too have complained about the lack of jobs beyond finance and banking.

If one was to make most of what Charlotte has then weather is a huge plus. The worst weather days in Charlotte are better than some of the extremes experienced in other states. Entertainment and Leisure activities can be developed within Charlotte. Charlotte has a huge land bank that can be developed for all demographics. What is also necessary is to look at all economic levels.

MORE SKYSCRAPPERS UPTOWN!!!!!!
I'd like to see a larger uptown that doesn't close down at 6pm. I can't wait to see it expand! An uptown with more shopping, bars, life that doesn't just include your work schedule...a better transportation system or better yet just finish the one that started (bring it to ballantyne and huntersville with more stops so that more people use it and it becomes a way of Charlottean life) lets clean up some parts close to uptown and make it more city living friendly! A city where you can live without a car and everythings within walking distance! It's a beautiful city and I hope it expands!!

I also wouldn't mind seeing a zoo, locally diversed restaurants, a major league baseball team, a water park (another one besides Carowinds), American Girl shop, A Filene's basement, H&M!!, WHOLE FOODS!!, Stew Leonards (would be a dream but never will happen), some outlet shopping, some more posh boutiques, outside bars with large decks....

I love charlotte but every city could improve...my list could go on and on...

AmandaEve....you made a great point. The uptown needs to include options that people frequent after office hours. Uptown always has one way traffic situation, rush of people coming in during the day for work and those rushing to get out after work. The place does not attract as many people after hours. While leaving uptown I was stuck to same old set of joints that remained open for business after 6pm!!! Which is such a shame considering the amount of people who are keen to stay back and spend their money on quality options.

Zoo, yet another good point since Charlotte's demographics lean heavily towards young families.

You got the ball rolling I hope others reading in here can come up with more creative ways......

Y'all needed to be here 15 years ago when tumbleweeds would come down Tryon after the bankers went home at night. The first time I saw a taxi waiting for a fare I did a double take. It's gotten so much better! I credit Ri-Ra with getting the ball rolling. But I agree, it could be better. Love the zoo idea.

You don't think the EpiCenter isn't a giant step in the right direction? What, specifically, would you all like to see added to the "nightlife" uptown?

Anytime I've been uptown at night, it has seemed relatively lively....
