Myrtle Beach is the only place if you are looking for malls, and shopping in general. Costal Grand is a large indoor "modern" mall....Market Commons is an "outdoor" mall, then my favorite is Broadway at the Beach (no major department stores, but tons of small shops), of course there are two tanger Outlets.

You are correct.....

Charleston is on a peninsula, and within an additional 10-20 minute drive you can be at either Folly Beach, Isle of Palms or Sullivans Island. It is do-able.
