Ron and I have decided to drive up to visit Charlotte (for the first time) this weekend!!!

Now, my next question is, what did you do on your first trip?? (We don't know anyone living there already...except a few of you here I've 'met' virtually..)

Should I contact a realtor just to help us get our feet wet?? I don't want to be wandering around aimlessly.

Would anyone here be willing to meet up with us for a few hours to show us around??? We'll pay for gas!!! lol We're not wackos or psycho or anything...

HELP!

Amy

If I didn't already have plans, lol....

Do not come up without at least talking to a realtor and arranging to get from him/her some local maps and suggestions on where to start.

Is this a trip just to see the city, or do you want to spend time looking at potential neighborhoods only? What is your price range, we can make some suggestions for you if we know that

It's going to be a trip to get familiar with the city. I'm still in the process of selling my husband on the idea. He seems really skeptical on the whole idea.

Thanks for helping....

Default Me Too! Me Too!

I'll be visiting this weekend as well. My 3rd Trip since 2005 (it seems that i should have moved by now though ). We'll be checking out a few communities that you fine folks on this board have suggested. I will also be heading to Union Cty as well, for the first time. Hopefully we will finally make a decision on where we will be. Good luck!!!

I can relate. Perhaps this is why we're not there yet!

Isn't that going to be a very LONG drive just for the weekend??

What kind of hotel do you want to stay in?

We're planning on leaving Thurs. evening. Coming back Sunday.

It's about 9 hours from Miami. We really don't want to spend alot on airfare...

I hate to argue, but are you SURE about that travel time? I believe it took us almost 7 hours from Charlotte just to Orlando one time, maybe I'm remembering wrong?

On our first house hunting trips, we wouldn't consult a realtor. (Sorry Loves!) We wanted to form our own opinions of areas first. Plus, if you use a Charlotte realtor, they sometimes do not know a lot about other counties. Decide how far you are willing to commute and let that be your guide. There were several areas that we LOVED but the commute would be a killer so we marked those off our list. Yes, the people on this forum can definitely get you started and point you in the right direction. I'd help you, but I'm not going to be around either. Here are some questions to get your started and help the others here get an idea of what you want.

What ages are your kids and what are you looking for in a school? Any special programs? Gifted? Athletics? Music? etc.
If buying a home, what price range are you looking for?
What type of neighborhood are you interested in? Big lot? Small lot? Big house? Pool? Neighborhood pool and tennis?
Close to the airport? Shopping?
Close to State Parks and outdoor activites?

Let us know and we can definitely help (or confuse!) you.
