Last night I lost my job as a supervisor for ceasing my staff members from completing an unsanitary conditions. I was employed by a company that cleaned buildings for Duke Energy.....I had a building that was in my region which we had 3 employees. Our staff was forced to continue cleaning unsanitary conditions inside of a wharehouse mens restroom that was used by Duke Energy truck drivers. This restrooms plumbing systems continued to have problems, which I addressed on many ocassions. Ofcouse, It was never fixed nor was I ever contacted. This went on for over a month.
Then on Monday night we had another spill, I instructed my janitor not to clean it and I followed by taking photos again. I returned in the morning to handle the situation personally. My boss was told of this many many times, and never followed through to upper management. I have learned a simple rule "words mean nothing" print out all your complaints and keep in file....You never know when you will need them. As soon as my badge was cancelled by Duke, my email account was cancelled. I have learned a valuable lesson....

I'm sorry to hear you lost your job. If you have any legal recourse, your emails should be able to be recovered. I'm curious what you meant by unsanitary conditions. From your post, all I can gather is that you worked for a cleaning crew and the bathrooms were dirty. Was it only your job to clean them if they were a little dirty, but not extra dirty, or is there something I am missing?

Yes we do clean the restrooms..but there is a maintenance company we are contracted by that is suppose to repair any issues. What was happening was the toilets in those restrooms needed to be changed but no one made an attempt to do this...So every day there would be a spill on the floor from feces and then my staff would come at night to find this mess. Basically they figured why fix the toilets, let the cleaning company continue to clean the mess

This goes for especially for things that you handle over the phone (like stuff dealing with credit cards, insurance, etc). I prefer to do it all by mail, due to the papertrail.

You could do it over the phone as long as you record conversations (which you have to tell the other party you are doing so)---which technologically isn't as easy yet, but we are getting there.

Trust, but verify.

Sorry to tell you but even if you had kept a paper trail, they were in their rights to fire you. Like it or not, your crew was there to clean stuff up regardless of whether the cause of the mess was ever fixed or even addressed.
