Hi all,

I'm new to the Charlotte area and would like to find a publically accessible spot that overlooks the Charlotte skyline. Outdoors is a must. A semi-romantic spot would be ideal with a nice lawn, but really anything relatively nice will do.

Can anyone recommend some cool places?!

Thanks so much in advance!

An airplane?

Depending on what you're looking for, I don't know if any such place exists. I would assume you are looking for an elevated spot with a clear view of the skyline. Even if one does exist, I'm not sure too many people would share it for fear of it becoming another ruined spot.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Looking at Google Maps and such, South Blvd between the Nascar Plaza and I-277 looks like it might not be too terrible. I'd definitely have to get out there and scope it, but so far it's the most "promising" that I've found. Not awesome, but not bad either.

Even so, any tips anyone can provide would be appreciated! CLT should totally build a park or something overlooking the city!

Bryant Park off of Wilkinson Blvd, west of downtown has an elevated portion above the ball field. It is a small area that has a nice view of the skyline, with a couple park benches and trees. You have to be just above the ball field for the best view. Google it and ye shall find. BTW, I have been there many times to take pictures of the skyline at sundown and later, and have never felt unsafe, but I'm a big guy. That area is not "the best" but it is quiet and I haven't even seen anyone there other than small groups playing baseball.

No problem. Just remember if you take Wilkinson Blvd west from the 77, you will turn right at the Charlotte School of Law. That street takes you to what appears to have previously been an overlook, maybe, with mature trees blocking the view of downtown. Just north of that parking area is the hill I spoke of. Obviously you will be facing east, but during sunset you get the nice golden glow on the buildings downtown. Makes a great spot for photographing the city.
