It seems like everyone I meet in CLT who is my age (early 30s) is a banker or at least the preppy yuppy type. Where do the edgy people (alternative, artsy, creative people who wear black and have a great sense of style) hang out? I have yet to find them!

I don't think you read the OP's criteria for "edgy" people. The people who hang out in noda, southend and plaza midwood are the ones she wants to avoid.

i would disagree. the people i see in those neighborhoods don't look like the banker types or yupees to me.

I don't know that you will find any one place where there are always edgy people hanging out, but I know my daughter and her friends like Amelie's (in NoDa) a lot. They're open 24 hours/day, have fabulous food and drinks (non alcoholic only, I believe), and several nice seating areas. She's a bit younger than you (22), but most of her friends are in your age range, so it's not just the "youngin's".

I think Noda kinda died as an edgy place close to a decade ago when they closed and tore down Fat City, Kelly's and a few other similar places and replaced them with condo buildings. It lost it's reputation as an odd sanctuary for both blue collar and artsy people in this otherwise very corporate city. 10 years of irrational real estate speculation changed it forever. It's really a shame as it's nothing like it used to be.

The Penguin (at night) and Snug Harbor in Plaza Midwood, and sometimes Tremont for shows
