Personally, I like crawl spaces. They allow you to easily access the lower level for future wiring changes, plumbing repair, and potential additions to your home. They also provide a softer subfloor on the first floor (plywood instead of OSB), which is easier on your joints. Also, I think houses on crawlspaces have more curb appeal since there are a few steps leading up to the front door, as opposed to slab houses, where the entrance is pretty much at ground level (maybe with 1 or 2 steps). Flooring changes are also easier (good luck pulling up hardwoods, tile, etc that's glued down to a concrete slab

Slabs do have their benefits though. I've heard that slab houses don't have as many minor settlement issues (drywall cracks, nail pops, etc) as crawlspace houses since the foundation is solid concrete. Also, with no air moving below the house, you don't have the potential moisture issues that crawl spaces have (mold on subfloors, critters under the kouse, etc).
